The Ordinances Banning Smoking

Striving for a pleasant, livable city for smokers and non-smokers alike.

Since June 1, 2008, fines of 1,000 yen have been imposed on offenders in Public Nonsmoking Area.

To prevent deterioration to property or the health of citizens, tourists and commuters while welcoming a trend toward good health to ensure a safe and peaceful healthy lifestyle, the Ordinance Concerning Bans and other Measures against Smoking was established and put in effect on June 1, 2007.
On November 1, 2007, 10 streets in the city center where a smoking ban was especially necessary were designated Public Nonsmoking Area.
Beginning June 1, 2008, a 1,000 yen fine has been imposed on offenders in Public Nonsmoking Area.
There are great risks to smoking, so letfs avoid it outside of Public Nonsmoking Area as well.

¦Smoking ,here in particular, is defined as smoking tobacco or carrying lit tobacco in outdoor public spaces in the entire city, including roads and parks.
