Images appearing in craft are not called pictures, but pattern or design. Works repeating over again the same pattern are in existence as are the designs of single scenes. Designs are not drawn with the brush but carved, embedded or piled up in a variety of extensive methods. From traditional patterns to the original designs of contemporary craftsmen/women, and all the while searching through the various aspects of pattern/design, the exhibition approaches the attractions of pattern/design of the craft image in distinction to that of the picture. Works by Ito Suiko, Tomimoto Kenkichi, Kamisaka Sekka, and Minagawa Gekka among others will be exhibited.
