After having studied at the Tokyo School of Arts, Ota Kijiro (1883-1951) left for Belgium in Meiji 41 (1908), acquiring an expressive vivid light in works in Pointillist techniques. After returning home he was active in the Teiten exhibitions, and in Showa 11 (1936), he established both the Murasakino Yoga Kenkyu-jo (Murasakino Western-style Painting Research Institute) and the Kaho-kai, which gave guidance to a younger generation. This exhibition will focus on works by artists exhibited in this museum in the ‘Kaho-kai’ exhibition, and trace one current of Kyoto’s history of Western-style painting. Works by Arai Tamotsu, Yamada Shinichi, Yuri Akira, Mio Kozo and Nishioka Yoshikazu will be exhibited.
