National Gallery of Art, Washington Gift of Horace Havemeyer in memory of his mother, Louisine W. Havemeyer All of the works forming the collection of The National Gallery of Art, Washington, in the American capital, were donations by the citizenry of the country. The opportunity presented by large scale renovations being carried out since the 70 years from when the gallery was founded has made it possible to realize the assembly for exhibition of its masterpieces of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism which the gallery boasts. Beginning with a section introducing Courbet and Corot, then Manet as a forerunner of Impressionism, the exhibition consists of 83 works that pass through the Impressionist generations including Monet, Renoir, and Degas and through to the Post-Impressionism of Cézanne, Van Gogh and others.
