The Kyoto Subway Line consists of the inner city south-north "Karasuma" Line and the east-west "Tozai" Line. The two lines intersect at "Karasuma Oike" Station where it is possible to transfer lines.

Details of a bus
Please board from the rear
Please enter the bus from the rear door, and exit at the front. The bus fare is paid as you get off the bus.
Pay When you get off
Pay when you are disembarking. The fare for non-flat Fare Routes and Flat Fare routes is different.

1 Search for the bus number
Looking at the Route Map, search for the bus number which goes from the place you are now, to the place you want to go. Determine the name of the bus stop from where you will ride, and your destination.

2 Please wait at the bus stop for the bus
Information about the route the bus will take is indicated by the bus number and main destination displayed on the front, back, and side of the bus near the door. (please refer to the figure on the left.)
3 Get on the bus
On arrival of the bus you want to ride, boarding the bus.
(Exception:for Non-flat Fare Route buses, please take a numbered ticket from the ticket machine(1))
The fare will depend on the number printed on the ticket. When using a card to ride the bus, please insert it into the card reading machine(2) or touch the IC cards over the card reader(4).

4 When approaching the destination
You can see the next bus stop on the display in front of the bus, or you can hear announcement.

5 Get off the bus
Pay when you are disembarking. The fare for non-flat Fare Routes and Flat Fare routes is different.
Payment: cash
Please put the exact fare.The payment box does not give change.
Please exchange bills and coins beforehand with the change machine in the payment box.
Small change is only available from coins and 1,000yen notes.

Cash up to 1,000-yen notes can be broken down into small change using the cash change machine.(2)
Non-Flat Fare Routes
Fare is based on intervals of travel.
To determine fare please check your ticket number and look at the display screen at the front of the bus(children are half-price,but all fares are rounded up the nearest 10th). Put exact change into the slot,once money is deposited into top slot no change can be made. If change is desired the fare machine will change up to 1,000 yen bills.

Flat Fare Routes
One-Day Pass are valid for Flat Fare Routes.
The first time you get off simply put the card into the card slot(4). On the back of the card the date will be printed.
After the first time simply show your card with the date to the driver.

Non-Flat Fare Routes
When getting-off please insert the card once again into the payment box.(4)
Extra fare will sometimes be required with this type of bus.

If your stop is outside the short distance routes then an extra fare will be charged.

Please place your card over the card reader near the change receptacle.

1 Search for the entrance to the Subway Station

2 Buying your ticket
Purchase a ticket to your destination from the automatic ticket machines.(english supported) The fare chart is located near the ticket machines. (The subway station is allocated a station number so please check the departure and destination stations on the fare chart or Subway Route Map. The station number can also be found inside the train.)
The fare for adults is from 210yen to 350yen, and for children 110yen to 180yen (depending on the destination).

3 Entering the automatic ticket gate
There are automatic ticket gates at the station, and you can enter by passing your ticket (or card) through the gate. After passing through, the ticket (or card) is returned, so please do not forget to take it.
IC Cards:Touch your IC card against the card reader area of the ticket gate to pass through.
4 Boarding the Subway
When train coming please wait behind the white line.
5 Get off the Subway & Getting out from the station
To leave the station where you get off the train, pass your ticket (or card) through the automatic ticket gates to exit. (The ticket will be collected, but the card will be returned so please do not forget to take it)

A Kyoto City Bus & Kyoto Bus One-Day Pass

For unlimited travel within the Flat-Fare Zone of Kyoto City Bus & Kyoto Bus:500yen(Children 250yen)
Within the City Bus & Kyoto Bus Flat-Fare Zone, you can travel any number of times throughout one day. If your destination is outside the Flat-Fare Zone, a separate fare applies from the bus stop on the zone border.

All Kyoto City buses, all Kyoto City Subway trains and most buses run by the Kyoto Bus company will accept these cards for repeated fares. When a one or two day card is purchased, a free guide map will be provided. This guide map has certain stores and vendors coupons.
